Pawan Jain started off by getting into engineering in college but the machineries did not seem to be his cup of tea. That’s when he decided to change his career field and fulfill his mother’s dream of him becoming an actor.
Pawan tryst with theatre started when he saw Joy Michael’s play Geetanjali five times. That play moved him a lot. Coincidentally Joy conducted a summer workshop, he joined it. He was part of the group ‘Yatrik’ for some years. He also started working with Avijit Dutta who was a director in his group.
As his first project, he did a commercial for a cooler where he just had to sleep! He was paid for it. It was televised and the pictures were on hoarding and newspapers.
Ebrahim Alkazi Doyen selected Pawan for his Living Theatre Academy of Drama in 1992. After his training he moved to Mumbai. There initially he worked with Alyque Padamsee- Indian advertising guru, for his play Roshini and he got Pawan a job in his niece Ayesha Sayani’s production house where he worked for 2 years for various ad campaigns.
“Initially I used to go to different offices looking for work. I had to earn money now I had no job. Beggars are not choosers. One day I went to meet Anurag Basu, shooting for Raahat. My friend from Delhi had introduced me to him,” says Chopra. Next day he got a call from Basu for two day work for which he was paid 1500 cash per day. That was also his first shoot for a television serial in Mumbai.
Pawan’s first long running serial was Raajdhani , produced by Bobby Bedi. In Raajdhani his girlfriend’s character was played by Neha Dhupia and it was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and later by Abhinav Kashyap. After Raajdhani , he worked with Neena Gupta in Siski and Saanjhi.
He had previously done Mano Ya Na Mano with Ekta Kapoor which was a three episode project on Zee. He was offered Kahin Kisi Roz on Star plus which had a very popular love track and it ran for almost year.
“That’s when I suddenly became famous; everywhere I used to go I was mobbed. Wherever I used to go people would stare at me, approach and take autographs. I was overwhelmed by the love.”
When he is not shooting, Pawan loves spending time with his wife and two kids. He also invests in stock market.
The passion to be known as one of the India’s finest actors motivates him.
Pawan is not fond of reality shows. He loves acting. “I get a high when I see Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Robert D’niro, George Clooney perform. I don’t see myself as a part of a reality show. I want my audience to watch me and relate themselves to me.”
“I feel great responsibility toward audience; I want to give the best I have. I Love my audience and I wish them all the very best,” says Pawan.
